The Spire Community is a Place of Welcome
Together, we are a community of helpers, collaborators, social support seekers, arts enthusiasts, music buffs, creative types, bargain hunters, volunteers, and spiritual revelers. Our projects and activities aim to promote inclusivity and welcome.
Ten years ago we began with our ‘Jesus was a Refugee’ campaign to educate the wider community about the difficulties new arrivals faced, assisting them to meet new people and settle into their new community. Since then we have created and adapted our programs to expand to ensure that all have a place to belong, to explore and to form friendships and kinship.
Hope’s Cafe and Goodies are the entry points into our community. Hope’s Cafe is open on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday and offers affordable delicious meals and barista made coffee – ensuring that everyone at any income level can enjoy dining on the Parade. Goodies provides low-cost high quality pre-loved items for sale which in turn funds the work of Spire Community.
We have many free activities involving art and craft, music, gardening and provide community education seminars and activities.
Please follow Hope’s Cafe on Facebook to keep up to date on all that is happening, and feel free to share with us not only your thoughts and images of your time here, but also your ideas.
GOODIES OP SHOP
We’re open from 10am until 4pm Monday to Friday, and 10am until 1pm on Saturdays.
The shop has a large range of clothing, vintage, retro, secondhand, and even clothes that have never been worn, as well as books, bric-a-brac, linen, records and jewellery.
Goodies Op Shop is entirely staffed by volunteers. It’s a welcoming and happy place where you can come in and grab a bargain.
Any profits are shared between the local Spire Community, including Hope’s Cafe, and other organisations involved in care and outreach. A list of recent donations made can be found on the Notice Board.
Goodies is located at the rear of the church property and parking is available with entry via Union Street. Bus tours are most welcome but please ring ahead so we can have the shop fully staffed, so you can have the best shopping experience.
Follow us on Facebook to stay up to date with any exciting new arrivals.
